Material & Manufacture process: Cast Alabaster
All our alabaster statues have 90% Greek Alabaster (Natural Mineral) in them. Of course the alabaster powder needs to stick together and 10% of the sculpture is a glue or resin compound that when set creates a finely detailed sculpture that is then hand finished to perfection. The alabaster powder and resin are mixed and placed into a mould of the original sculpture. Because the powder is so fine the smallest details can be reproduced using this method. It looks and feels like hand carved marble. This strong material is water and weather resistant, doesn’t have bubbles, will not crack, and can be washed with most cleaning agents
Please note: It is not a carved statue.
Please do not confuse it with calcite alabaster variety which is also known as onyx-marble, Egyptian alabaster, or Oriental alabaster.
Hippocrates ( 460 – 370 BC), also known as Hippocrates II, was a Greek physician of the Age of Pericles (Classical Greece), and is considered one of the most outstanding figures in the history of medicine. He is referred to as the “Father of Modern Medicine” in recognition of his lasting contributions to the field as the founder of the Hippocratic School of Medicine. Hippocrates is commonly portrayed as the paragon of the ancient physician, and credited with coining the Hippocratic Oath, still relevant and in use today. He is also credited with greatly advancing the systematic study of clinical medicine, summing up the medical knowledge of previous schools, and prescribing practices for physicians through the Hippocratic Corpus and other works.
